Iv'e called cycleops many times, they have never really helped. It's really always the same silly suggestion... download the new firmware!! Like I haven't tried that!! It's now for sale. I bought a Kickr, same dongle sane ant same room... no issues!!!

I have owned a Cycleops Powerbeam Pro for a few years and used it pretty often with Zwift. The Powerbeam Pro is a fine trainer for a wheel on roller setup. But what I found is no matter how well you had it setup, when you hit grades on Zwift, or a high watt output, it never really felt right. The pedaling wasn't as smooth as you might have wheel slip etc. Wow what a different experience with direct drive. It is as close to a real road experience you are going to find. I realize it costs more, but most will use a separate wheel anyway with their trainer and trainer tire etc. For me, the difference in riding experience, ease of setup etc was worth the difference. I would also say for the difference between direct drive and wheel on roller setups, the higher the grade, speed, or watts, the more you will notice the difference. I also would say the Hammer Direct Drive could not have been easier to setup. It seems very well built as well.

Out of the box, the setup was easy. I'm using a road bike. I just installed the road cassette, plugged in the hammer and jumped on. Zwift auto discovered the hammer power meter and cadence. The resistance feel pretty realistic. Of course nothing beats the feel of the actual road, but this is pretty close. The platform is very stable with the legs in the "out" position. When the legs are folded in, the hammer takes up very little space. If i were going to pick a "con" or two- the hammer is a little heavy. I'm sure that's the flywheel inside the hammer that gives it the realistic and smooth feel. So, you won't be moving it around a lot. Not a big deal. 2nd con- I wish cyclops would actully incorporate the hamme into a full blown stationery bike. I have other family members who would want to use the hammer and that means changing bikes, axles and cassettes. A full blown stationary bike would mean just lowering or raising the seat.
